No single player is irreplaceable in the NFL.

It’s what makes the sport so great. It’s why we’re so addicted. It’s not about the player. It about the team. Sure, special players are unique. They can be challenging to replace, and roster holes can often linger. But we’ve seen too many examples of teams losing all-time greats and recovering—or even performing at a higher level with the star gone

Which brings me to A.J. Brown. He’s been a great Eagles wide receiver. That much is clear. But he’s far from irreplaceable.

In fact, I think there are two free agent wide receivers that could be satisfactory replacements in 2026, assuming the Eagles do move Brown in a trade.

Before getting to the pair of wideouts on my mind, let’s start with this disclaimer: I don’t believe the Eagles need to replace Brown with a No. 1 wide receiver. In that realm, they already have Brown’s replacement: DeVonta Smith.

Instead, I’m looking for a No. 2.

Here’s who could be that.

Romeo Doubs: The former Packers playmaker just spent a year with Sean Mannion in Green Bay’s offense. Will play next season at age 26, which means there’s plenty of left in the tank. Coming off a career high in yards, yards per target, catch percentage and catch percentage.

Mike Evans: If Doubs represents upside, Evans represents an older version of Brown. Not what he once was, and a risk moving forward. But would you be totally shocked if Evans bounced back to a respectable level in 2026 after an injury-plagued season? I wouldn’t. Signing Evans after trading Brown would be reminiscent of the Seahawks signing Cooper Kupp after trading away D.K. Metcalf last spring, opening the door for Jaxon Smith-Njigba to become a star.
