There’s nothing quite like the debut of a potential ace.

I remember where I was—DeSales University, walking to class on a Friday morning—when the campus was buzzing about Cole Hamels impending debut against the Cincinnati Reds.

I can recall watching Aaron Nola’s debut agains the Tampa Bay Rays in what was otherwise a forgetful 2015 season. A Tuesday night in July became something more because of the hope Nola represented.

The moments don’t come around often. But when they do—and the pitcher lives up to the billing—they are remembered.

And for lots of reasons, we might remember what Andrew Painter did last night for a long, long time.
