Last night’s 8-2 Phillies win over the Dodgers in Game 3 didn’t just stave off elimination—it potentially flipped the series on its head.

And while the game was (effectively) won early thanks to excellent pitching from Aaron Nola and Ranger Suarez and the top of the lineup waking up in the fourth inning against Los Angeles’ $300M starter, the series odds may have tilted once you dosed off on your couch.

Here’s why the five-run spot in the top of the eighth to take a 3-1 lead to an 8-1 was more significant than it may have seemed.
