Man, it’s been quite the start to the Eagles offseason.
In the last week, to review:
-Kevin Patullo fired
-End of season press conference, in which Nick Sirianni reveals that he may have zero say over his own staff
-Report from Mike Silver of The Athletic alleging Sirianni, Howie Roseman and Jeff Lurie are “reluctant to criticize” Jalen Hurts
-Report from Bleeding Green Nation about multiple A.J. Brown trade requests during last season
-Jeff McLane revealing on his unCovering the Birds podcast that Nick Sirianni’s job was in peril both at the end of the 2023 season and at the bye week of the 2024 Super Bowl season
Did I miss anything? It doesn’t sound like the kind of situation or team that should have our trust entering 2026, yet they have mine.
The reason? Let me hit you with a baseball analogy.
The Roseman-Lurie dynamic reminds me of an erratic, but effectively wild big league pitcher.
You know the famous names: Nolan Ryan. Randy Johnson. At times, Pedro Martinez.
They had tendencies to be all over the place. Maybe even throw a pitch behind a batter. But when they were on, they were on. But there was just enough doubt to put doubt in the head of each hitter.
Roseman and Lurie’s running of the Eagles reminds me of that. They can make big mistakes. They can swing and miss. They can overstep bounds. It can sometimes feel more chaotic than it should. The head coach has basically zero power, almost unprecedented for a Super Bowl winning leader.
I don’t know how this offseason will turn out. I don’t know who the next OC is. I have no idea who will be the Eagles quarterback in Week 1 of the 2027 season.
But much like when Ryan, Johnson, or Martinez pitched, I’ll be on them to win. The Eagles have earned my benefit of the doubt, regardless of how it looks.
Bo Bichette to the Mets is a Phillies disaster.
Do you feel bad for Josh Allen? I do, just like I did for these great athletes that couldn’t win the big one.
