This Howie SZN feels different.
Sure, the Eagles are making moves. Dallas Goedert is back. Hollywood Brown has arrived as a veteran deep threat. Andy Dalton is on his way from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
Neither are flashy. Neither are likely destined for a huge role on the 2026 Eagles.
But both are similar in a way that feels instructive to watch when it comes to Howie Roseman’s offseason strategy.
Let’s call it the calm before the storm.
Now, I’m sure you’re asking: What the heck does Goedert re-signing a one-year deal, Brown joining the wide receiver room and an out-of-nowhere trade for a veteran quarterback have to do with each other.
Roseman is simply covering his bases for the big stuff to come.
By keeping Goedert, the Eagles kept themselves in an advantageous salary cap spot for 2026. By adding Brown, the Eagles have a capable veteran receiver that could serve as the No. 2 option for a season if, say, their depth chart changes quickly due to a trade of another Brown in the coming week. By making the Dalton trade, Roseman is ready to take the top offer for Tanner McKee in coming weeks.
Sometimes you have to set up the next chess move before making it. That’s what this Howie SZN has been about—so far.
Joe vs. Jack was amazing. What an event. What a contest. What a night.
It might be time to talk about Roseman misplaying the Brown trade market.
