Do you see what I see?

V.J. Edgecombe is off to an incredible start to his NBA career, and I can't unsee the past when I watch him play.

Do you see it too?

Another night, another outstanding game (26 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal) from Sixers rookie V.J. Edgecombe in an impressive win over a talented Orlando Magic team. We’re watching a heck of a basketball player become a star by the day, and help bring excitement back to the Sixers.

And while I dream on the future, I can’t help think about the past.

From the minute I started watching Edgecombe play at Baylor, he reminded me of someone.

Here’s a clip of his block last night, along with a clip of one of my favorite players of all time.

Do you see the resemblance?

First, let’s watch Edgecombe.

That angle is really fun. Even more fun: Edgecombe’s athleticism.

Now watch this (the highlight should start at about the 1:48 mark) from Hall of Famer Dwayne Wade.

It’s uncanny. The leap. The block. The angle. The chase down.

Edgecombe (+135 NBA ROY odds at Fanduel), much like Wade, wasn’t the prospect in his class that came into the league with the most hype. But when you watched him, you knew. He was ahead of his time, more mature than his age stated—and with a game far beyond where it should be based on his NBA experience.

I’m really enjoying watching Edgecombe, especially when he looks like Baby Wade.

Did the Eagles send a message to A.J. Brown on Sunday?
