Does the Gage Wood pick say something about the Phillies?
Best player available? Unique opportunity? Or something more?

Let’s start here: Gage Wood was made to pitch in Philadelphia.
The hard-throwing righty out of Arkansas is all energy and guts on the mound, as seen when he completed a no-hitter in the College World Series last month.
Phillies drafted RHP Gage Wood, who threw a no-hitter with 19 strikeouts at the College World Series for Arkansas, with the 26th pick.
He’s the team’s first college first rounder since Brian Barber joined the Phillies organization.

We’re looking at a fan favorite, assuming the No. 26 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft stays healthy and reaches his potential.
But I was also struck at what the pick may have meant about the organization, Dave Dombrowski and what the Phillies are thinking as we approach the trade deadline.
