It’s time for John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski to wake up.

The 2026 Phillies team—built by Dombrowski using $300M of Middleton’s money—stinks. Through 28 games, the Phillies are 9-19. They own the worst run differential (minus-54) in baseball by a staggering 24 runs. The Phillies haven’t just been bad—they’ve been by far the worst team in baseball.

In most years, there’s little recourse to a start like this. Sure, fire the manager. Can a hitting coach. Try to pull a lever. But nothing with real substance behind it. But that’s not the case right now. In fact, there’s a button the Phillies could push today that would have the potential to change the season and the franchise.
