The eye test works.
I don’t need to hear about the back of a baseball card (or Baseball-Reference page). I don’t need to be talked to about platoon splits or overexposing a reserve player to more at bats than he can handle.
I just want to talk about my (and your) eye test.
Right now, the Phillies have big production issues at second and third base. Bryson Stott (.493 OPS) and Alec Bohm (.448 OPS) are among the worst hitters in the sport. That’s not up for debate early this season. In the long term, Aidan Miller should arrive to steal one of their positions. Plus, the trade market could be helpful. I already have a third base name in mind.
But in the short term? The answer is simple if we all just use our eyes.
