Sometimes conventional wisdom is smart until it isn’t any longer.

As Super Bowl week begins in Santa Clara, two things became immediately clear:

-This year feels way different than any Super Bowl week in recent years. Sure, some of that is because the Eagles aren’t there like they were in 2023 and 2025. That’s for sure. But there’s also a lack of big buzz, mostly due to the Chiefs not representing the AFC. It feels like some of those non-Patriots Super Bowls during the Tom Brady era. Something is just a little off.

-The Eagles philosophy of how offense impacts winning is outdated.

Let’s unpack the second one.

How many times have you heard the Eagles—especially Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts—reference the turnover battle and taking care of the football? A lot. Over and over and over. And while it’s surely better to protect the ball than give it way, I believe the Eagles jumped the shark in the importance of turnover differential, almost putting it ahead of scoring points and being the aggressor. In a way, the 2025 Eagles tried to reverse engineer wins. It doesn’t work like that, and I think the Patriots and Seahawks are good examples of the opposite approach.

New England’s Drake Maye threw eight interceptions and fumbled eight times during the regular season. He also helped lead the Patriots to 27.2 points per game, and will finish top-two in NFL MVP voting.

Seattle’s Sam Darnold ranked 34th in the NFL in interception percentage. He also torched the Rams in the NFC Championship Game, and helped his team score 29.2 points per game during the regular season, good for second-best in the NFL.

Smart is good. Conservative is not. The Eagles need to find their way back to where the league is headed. The objective needs to be explosive and score points, not wasted plays in the name of turnover differential.

Is Vic Fangio in or out? The Eagles need an answer ASAP.

I dove into the Fangio retirement rumors and what they likely mean on WIP Daily.
