We gained some clarity last night.
With the 49ers victory over the Colts, the Eagles are out of the running for the No. 1 overall seed. That reality was pretty clear before last night, but it’s locked in now. And while it’s possible that the Eagles move up to the No. 2 seed in the conference (or fall down to No. 4) the overwhelming likelihood feels like a No. 3 seed in this year’s NFC postseason.
That would mean a matchup with the No. 6 seed, almost assuredly the third-place team from the NFC West. Of course, don’t let “third place” fool you. We’re talking about a team that could be coming across the country with a 12-5 record. If the Eagles are the No. 3 seed, a date with the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers or Seattle Seahawks could be on tap in less than three weeks.
Who should we want to face? Who should we not? Here’s how I’d rank the possible first round opponents from the team I’d most want to see to the team I’d least want to see here for a postseason game.
