Maybe it was the whole week on WIP. Maybe it was watching last night’s College Football Playoff Game, a thriller between Ole Miss and Miami. Or maybe it was my algorithm serving me up Tim Tebow’s walk-off playoff touchdown pass to beat the Steelers.
Either way, I’m ready.
49ers-Eagles. 4:30 Sunday. Lincoln Financial Field.
It’ll be a great game, featuring a ton of talent on both sides. Here’s how I would rank the 10 best players that will be on the field on Sunday evening.
Quick disclaimer: I’m leaving off both Trent Williams and Lane Johnson. Both are health questions. We know how great both are when feeling right.
Now to the list, with apologies to Jalen Hurts, Jaelan Phillips, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Nakobe Dean, and Kyle Juszcyzk.
Jalyx Hunt, EDGE, Eagles: What a rise for the second-year pass rusher. He’s become the Eagles’ most consistent edge.
Jordan Davis, DL, Eagles: He’s finally become the player the Eagles thought he could be during the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. What a force.
George Kittle, TE, 49ers: Still a monster.
Brock Purdy, QB, 49ers: One of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL on a yearly basis. Watch out for his legs, especially in the red zone.
Jalen Carter, DL, Eagles: Can he be the guy he was last postseason?
Saquon Barkley, RB, Eagles: Not the guy he was one year ago, but a special run or two is still in there.
Cooper DeJean, DB, Eagles: The best slot corner in the game.
Quinyon Mitchell, DB, Eagles: His rise from Toledo to top cover in a two-season span has been incredible to watch.
Zach Baun, LB, 49ers: What a player against both the run and the pass.
Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers: Perhaps he’s lost some explosion, but we’re talking about an Offensive Player of the Year candidate that almost had 1,000 yards rushing and receiving.
Vic Fangio is the Eagles’ answer to what San Fran does well.
Here are my x-factors for 49ers-Eagles.
