So what, now what?
I started with a Jalen Hurts line today, but we’re talking about another Philadelphia star: Bryce Harper.
It’s been a few days since Harper’s comments to start off spring training, but that hasn’t stopped reaction pouring in on WIP. Harper is the talk of the town. That’s not new. But what is, for the first time in his tenure here: It’s not about his play or the team, but rather about his relationship with the team.
So where do we go now?
Here’s how I would rank the most likely Phillies-Harper realities one year from today.
(In order from most to least likely.)
Dave Dombrowski is fired: The most likely. If John Middleton has to choose between his team president or his star player, we know what will happen.
Harper requests a trade: The doomsday scenario, but one we have to contemplate now.
Harper gets a contract extension: It would feel so incredibly silly if the Phillies gave Harper more money as an apology, but stranger things have happened. He’ll have five years left on his deal after 2026.
The Phillies win the World Series and all is well: The happy ending. Let’s hope for it.
Was Dombrowski trying to motivate Harper?
Max Crosby is a great player, but does he make sense for the Eagles right now?
