I like the Riq Woolen signing.
He’s a physical freak. He’s flashed excellence. He’s been on a championship defense. He’s young. He’s going to be hungry on a one-year prove it deal.
But he also comes with risk.
Mental errors. Good, not great production. The team that drafted him letting him go when he’s supposedly coming into his prime.
And perhaps his next stop will be better than the ending—playing less snaps, falling out of favor of the coaching staff, losing a full-time spot to Josh Jobe—of his first.
In that way, he reminds me of a player the Eagles once drafted in the first round.
Woolen reminds me of Derek Barnett.
Remember when the 2017 first-round pick flashed early, helping the Eagles win a Super Bowl? I thought he had a chance to be a star. Well, it turned out that his best years in Eagle green were his first few years here. After that? We saw the flaws. He wasn’t a true star. He made mistakes. He had way, way too many penalties and not enough plays made.
Sound familiar?
Barnett wore out his welcome here.
But he’s gone on to a nice career with the Houston Texans. Perhaps we’ll get the best of Woolen in his next stop.
Birds Town Hall was a blast. Thanks to everyone that came out!
