Tough scene for Roger Goodell.

After months of pushing (no pun intended) NFL owners to ban the Tush Push for the 2025 season, Goodell lost.

It would be one thing if the commissioner just acted as a steward for the best interest in the game and health and safety. In essence, that’s his job. But this felt deeper.

And here’s why it’s such a massive loss for Goodell to take on the chin this week.

Goodell, by many reports, doesn’t like the Tush Push. He wanted it gone, including tabling the vote for over a month to (likely) attempt to garner more votes against the Eagles. It worked, to an extent. With a 22-10 vote, the majority voted against the Tush Push. That’s up from the reported 50-50 number we heard at the first league meetings in March. But, of course, it’s not the 75 percent needed to change the rule.

If Goodell, as speculated on by Mike Florio, actually encouraged the Packers (because they don’t have a traditional owner) to be the team to propose the rule change, he’s even slimier than I previously thought.

Tabling the vote? Coercing a team to do his bidding? All because of a one-yard play run maybe three to five times per week by one team in the league?

Goodell fought the Eagles, and the Eagles won.
