Should we be worried about Jalen Hurts' concussion protocol?

What in the world is going on with Jalen Hurts?

Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion against the Washington Commanders on December 22, leaving the game in the first quarter of an eventual Philadelphia loss.

He hasn't been on the field since.

In the 13 days since Hurts slammed his head into the ground in Landover, Maryland, the Eagles have conducted six practices (or walk-throughs) and played a game. Tomorrow will represent another game, one Hurts has already been ruled out of. According to head coach Nick Sirianni, Hurts is still progressing through the protocol.

With a home playoff game one week away, is it time to worry about Hurts' status? Is this just the Eagles using the system for extended rest in a game Hurts wasn't likely to play in no matter what, or is something more worrisome going on here? Not all concussions and post-concussion symptoms are the same. Hurts could be back and totally fine by early next week in time to prepare for the Commanders or Packers. Or he could not, putting his status in doubt for Wild Card Weekend.

I'm not worried—yet. But my antenna is up that something concerning is on the horizon for the Eagles.

And even if Hurts is cleared and ready to go on playoff week, he'll have thrown a grand total of four competitive passes from kickoff of Week 16 through his first snap in the postseason. I'd expect rust. Let's just hope he can shake it off quickly.
