As the Eagles get set for the final day of mandatory mini camp before a seven week vacation, there’s one spot on the roster that just doesn’t add up: No. 2 quarterback.
We know Jalen Hurts is the starter. Fifth-round pick Cole Payton is the developmental guy. There’s no drama or intrigue there. But as for the No. 2 and No. 3, well, something is up. By all accounts, Andy Dalton is the No. 2 right now. Which means Tanner McKee has been demoted to No. 3.
On the surface, I guess it’s not crazy. McKee is a former sixth-round pick that’s played sparingly in the NFL. Dalton is a long-time NFL veteran with 169 starts under his belt. We know who has had the better career.
But beneath the surface? Value, age and trajectory would tell you something is amiss.
Here’s my guess on what’s happening.
