The pound of flesh has been delivered. The head is on a stick. The proverbial sacrificial lamb has been slaughtered.
Kevin Patullo has been fired.
The Eagles are officially in the market for a new offensive coordinator. Over the next couple of days, you’ll likely read the names of 20 or so potential candidates. Most will be viable. Some will be more likely to land here than others. I have my own list—with two names standing out as the most intriguing.
Todd Monken and Nate Scheelhaase.
Some quick thoughts on each.
Monken: Former Ravens offensive coordinator that helped Lamar Jackson play the best football of his career. High-level play caller at Georgia during the school’s dominant run. Worked a variety of quarterbacks, from Jameis Winston to Baker Mayfield to Carson Beck to Jackson. Married his passing scheme with heavy-run element in Baltimore. At the age of 59, he could arrive, excel and stay for years without true head coaching interest around the league.
Scheelhaase: The Rams pass game specialist is a fast riser. Worked at Iowa State under former head coach Matt Campbell, a friend of Nick Sirianni. Scheelhaase is a former college quarterback. As part of his duties with the Rams, he’s responsible for drawing up Sean McVay’s plays. That job was previously held by Zac Taylor and Liam Coen. McVay talked about having the role himself in Washington years ago under Kyle Shanahan. Sometimes proximity to greatness doesn’t equal greatness. But it just might in this case. The Eagles interviewed Scheelhaase before promoting Brian Johnson in 2023. If the goal is to create the best long-term offense—not necessarily to fix Jalen Hurts—Scheelhaase fits.
We had Devan Kaney to talk about the A.J. Brown-Sirianni sideline spat.
Patullo was obviously the Eagles scapegoat.
