I didn’t see this coming.
Did you?
Oh, I don’t mean last night. A rout of the Chiefs in the Super Bowl wasn’t the most likely outcome, but the path was there if you looked hard enough. The Eagles had the best roster in the game, and not by a little bit. They’ve had the best roster in the NFL all year.
But I didn’t see it right away.
At first, I thought we were getting a 10-7, fringe-playoff season. Then at 2-2, well, I felt this thing was headed downhill fast. Even after a headline-grabbing (for all the wrong reasons) win over the Browns (the first of 10 in a row), I saw the glass half empty.
But then something changed, and reality hit me like a ton of bricks.
Here’s when I knew the 2024 Eagles were special and had a chance to become champions.
Sunday November 24.
That was the night.
Eagles 37, Rams 20.
Sunday Night Football. The whole league watching. A tough road game against an excellent coach and quarterback. A Rams team that needed the game more. A potential trap game in between a divisional clash vs. Washington and a high-profile trip to Baltimore.
And all the Eagles did is push a soon-to-be division winner around for three hours, wear them down in their building, and steal their will in the final quarter. It was dominance. It was a team win. It was the kind of game Super Bowl champions dominate.
It was also the last time I picked this Eagles team to lose a game.
At the end of every pregame show on the Eagles Radio Network, we make game predictions. To that point, I had picked the Eagles to lose about half the time this season, focusing too much on what I thought they were and not enough on what my eyes were showing me they had become.
Better late than never, right?
What a team. What a season. What a run.
Super Bowl champions!
We’ll be celebrating all day (heck, all month) on the WIP Midday Show!
