The sneaky bad part of a bullpen problem

The Phillies bullpen has performed like one of the worst units in baseball so far this season.

Yikes.

As the ball flew off Francisco Lindor’s bat in the seventh inning last night, we all knew it wasn’t landing in the field of play. Jose Ruiz served it up, and Lindor deposited it over the right-center field wall for his second home run of the night.

It was eerily reminiscent of the scene at Citi Field last October, except no one is surprised right now. Last year’s Phillies bullpen was excellent for the majority of the season, then unfortunately faltered in the biggest moments. This year’s group? Well, it’s just flat-out bad right now.

And while the MLB-leading six blown saves is alarming, there’s an under-the-radar issue within the bullpen issue for this Phillies team.
