Well, that was a loud move.

On Tuesday, the Eagles rewarded Saquon Barkley with a record-setting contract extension. The deal, which makes Barkley the NFL’s first $20M per year running back, can be viewed through a few different lenses. While it was clearly earned after the most rushing yards in a season (including playoffs) in NFL history, the Eagles are taking on risk with another long-term, big-money deal to a star.

Barkley was the latest in a slew of these kind of deals handed out by the Eagles in recent years.

And if you look a few years down the line, the roster feels poised for a pivot or change if the band wants to stay together.
