That hurt.
The 2025 Eagles season is over, ending with a thud in a 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
We’ll spend all day (and week, really) assigning blame, unpacking what happened to a team that went from dominant in 2024 to a far cry from that in 2025. There’s plenty of blame to go around. We just watched the defending Super Bowl champions outplayed, out coached, and outclassed in their building. They were less disciplined, smart, efficient and effective than their opponent.
But here’s what made it sting so much.
We knew it was coming.
Oh, maybe not yesterday morning or early afternoon. Maybe not even last week in the lead up to the game. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment right before the postseason starts. But if you were looking at this season through clear eyes, we saw this day coming.
This Eagles team wasn’t great. This Eagles team wasn’t well coached on offense. They didn’t play clean football. Their quarterback was mediocre. The passing game was below average. They couldn’t run the clock out with sustained runs. The defense—while excellent—was a tick below last year’s special unit. The kicker was bad. Their head coach offered no discernible strategic advantage. Every game against a high-level opponent amounted to a coin flip.
The 2025 Eagles never truly looked like a Super Bowl team.
You knew it. I knew it. We just picked and chose when to ignore it.
Now we can’t, either collectively or personally.
As far as how Howie Roseman and Jeff Lurie fix it, and assure that a potential dynasty doesn’t get wasted?
Buckle up.
