“With the 32nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select… “

In 16 days, we’ll find out. Yes, it’s that close. A deep playoff run, weeks-long celebration, whirlwind free agency losses and start of the Phillies season caught up to us. Now the draft is here.

And your guess is as good as mine as who the Eagles select in the first round. But one piece of draft news involving an intriguing prospect did catch my attention because it could impact the Eagles in a big way.

And it might be déjà vu all over again for Howie Roseman and Jeff Lurie.

Keep this name in the back of your head: Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.

The electric quarterback prospect reportedly accepted an invitation to this year’s draft in Pittsburgh, which has me wondering what the NFL knows that the rest of us don’t yet.

Milroe hasn’t been hyped like the draft’s top quarterback prospects. As of last week, I would have guessed Cam Ward (No. 1), Shedeur Sanders (somewhere within the top 20 or so), Jaxson Dart (back end of Round 1) and Tyler Shough (late first, early second) all would have been selected before Milroe. But the latest news either contradicts that or gives the sense that a run on quarterbacks could happen before the end of Day 1.

Which puts the Eagles at No. 32 in an advantageous spot.

Much like when we were celebrating the 2017 team at the 2018 NFL Draft, opportunity could come knocking if a team calls and offers Roseman value to move out of the first round completely. That’s what Baltimore did in 2018, turning the No. 32 pick into a raw, athletic quarterback prospect named Lamar Jackson. Ironically, there’s some Jackson to Milroe’s game.

Keep an eye on Milroe on draft night. The longer he falls, the more it’ll impact the Eagles decision making. Sell the pick to the highest bidder? Select a talented non-QB that fell down the board because of a (surprise) run on quarterbacks? Shock the world and add to the quarterback factory?

We’ll find out in 16 days.

Is this Phillies team different? The at-bats certainly feel like it right now.

What should Rob Thomson do with Alec Bohm?
