Actions speak louder than words.
They do in all walks of life, especially sports. Teams tell us all sorts of things, for all sorts of reasons. Public relations isn’t just a job title—it’s messaging for an entire region and fan base.
When the Eagles comment publicly on the team and trajectory, they’ll talk about competing for another championship as soon as 2026. In some ways, they’ll believe it. We might believe them. When the season starts, we’ll talk ourselves into something great happening. That’s fandom.
But when looking at the Eagles moves so far this week, a different reality creeps in.
The Eagles are not acting like a team all-in to win the Super Bowl this coming season.
We haven’t seen a splash. The roster hasn’t gotten better. Rumors continue to circle around removing talent (A.J. Brown) rather than bringing in significant help.
Through the first wave of free agency, here’s the ledger.
Departures: Nakobe Dean, Reed Blakenship, Jaelan Phillips, Jahan Dotson
Additions: Riq Woolen, Arnold Ebiketie, Jonathan Jones, Johnny Mundt
Re-signings: Grant Calcaterra, Braden Mann
As of this writing, the only long-term deal the Eagles have handed out is to a punter.
The Eagles are in transition. They hinted at it during the end of season press conference. The Brown rumors further it. Free agency has cemented it. And until I see a name of note arrive to the roster to bolster what they have, I now believe it.
